Ashdod Museum of Art strives to connect the community with the field of art, to cultivate art enthusiasts in the city, to mediate and make art accessible, and to offer quality and professional art education.
We offer guided tours, courses, and professional art studies for all ages. Our education and guidance team consists of artists, graduates with degrees in art, or those with extensive experience and knowledge in the field.
The heart of our activity is mediation and guidance regarding the exhibitions on display.
We advocate for a method of dialogical guidance, which gives space to the inner world of the participants and helps develop imagination and thinking while cultivating listening and discourse skills. The guidance sessions incorporate activities that the team specially designs for each exhibition.
The flagship program of the museum’s education department is The Track – a 5-unit matriculation study program, which was written and developed by the museum team. This unique program is open to all Ashdod students whose schools do not have an art track. It has been operating since 2015 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education – Division A for Pedagogical Development and with the support of the Director of Education in the Ashdod Municipality.
The museum’s education team was a partner in the publication of the book Mediation Strategies in Museums, which includes selected chapters from the doctoral work of Dr. Yehudit Savan of blessed memory. The book includes a fascinating overview of the history and theoretical sources dealing with art mediation in museums in Israel. The book’s production was made .possible thanks to the collaboration of Ashdod Museums, the Artists’ Association, ICOM Israel, and the Savan family
The book can be purchased at the museum shop.
